What is a Lab Band?
The lab band or what you here they say the lab band surgery is a small inflatable silicone device that is wrapped around the upper part of the stomach.

The idea behind the lab band is too create a small pocket at the top portion of the stomach and this slows down the food to the main part of the stomach. The idea is too tell the brain the stomach is full and having the small upper stomach now it tells the brain to stop eating.

The Lab band is inflated and adjusted to the required size by a small access port placed just below the skin and saline solution or radiopaque isotonic solution is added though the port. It may take 2 or more fills to get it right for the patient as some doctors will be more aggressive with the fills, the whole process can take around several months a doctors will wait 3 to 4 weeks between fills.
You may have lap band slip which is when the lower part of the stomach lapses over the band and causes obstruction. There can also be mechanical failures such as cracking of the tubing.
Some of the complications of the lab band surgery can be nausea, gastro reflux, diarrhea and vomiting. You may have vomiting of your stomach food from the upper pouch and this not considered normal.
It is recommended too join a support group, by asking your surgeon or searching online you will be able to find other people who understand what you have been though.
